Kalutara Beach

Situated 42 km south of Colombo. Kalutara is famous for it beach as well as for the Kalutara bodiya which is considered a sacred place for buddhist pilgrims. The best thing about the Kalutara beach is that the river is also at close proximities to it so sports like water rafting can be done.

Kalutara Beach is a vibrant and easily accessible stretch of coastline on Sri Lanka’s southwest side, renowned for its dramatic backdrop dominated by the iconic Kalutara Bodhiya, a magnificent white stupa that seems to float above the surrounding palm trees. Unlike more secluded beaches, it offers a dynamic blend of local life and tourism, where visitors can watch colorful fishing boats bring in the day’s catch, enjoy leisurely walks along the wide sandy shore, and experience spectacular sunsets over the Indian Ocean. The beach is lined with a mix of resorts, guesthouses, and restaurants, providing modern comforts while still retaining a strong sense of authentic Sri Lankan culture, making it a perfect stop for those seeking both convenience and a
genuine coastal atmosphere.
