Laxapana Falls

Height & Type

At 126 meters (413 feet), Laxapana Falls is the eighth tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. Its powerful, tiered cascade creates a stunning sight, especially during the rainy season when the flow is at its fullest.

Location & Access

Nestled in the Maskeliya area of the Nuwara Eliya District, Laxapana Falls is formed by the Maskeliya Oya, a tributary of the Kelani River. The falls are easily accessible by road, with a short trek through tea plantations and village paths leading to beautiful viewpoints.

Landscape & Surroundings

Laxapana is set against a backdrop of lush green hills, tea estates, and rural villages, offering both tranquility and cultural charm. The waterfall is also historically significant, with legends linking it to the Ramayana, where it is said Lord Rama’s army rested nearby. Today, it’s also known for being near several hydroelectric power plants, highlighting its role in both nature and industry.
